Nasional is an inquiry to the identification of Malaysian ethnic groups in the realm of internet democracy and its privileges. These identities among others, are what many Malaysian may have had identified with, thus influencing the trajectory of Malaysia’s social political landscape and perpetually shaping national governance, policy making, and social construct within the country.

A 4-channel video work, each an amalgamation generated by AI (machine learning) based on internet public image searches of Malaysian multicultural ethnicities. The automated web crawler collects images based on the country’s well-known ethnic classification keywords, which are Malay, Chinese, Indian and Others. These search results are processed only to fit the AI machine learning requirements, that is otherwise untampered with.

The generated videos are shown separately together to explicitly conjure possible confluences in between them within their lateral spaces.
